Dennis

Dennis.jpg

Folks last year I posted images of hurricanes set to impact the state of Florida. Dennis the newest is one and will impact some where on the Florida coastline. I myself am in Tampa, and all I can say is this storm is nothing the screw with people, if you are in the path of this storm please take it seriously and remember that your possesions can be replaced and your loved ones cannot. My thoughts and prayers are with anyone who may be affected by this storm.

"When I was young..."

Yesterday's Live8 concerts got me thinking. I have realized that my generation (mind you I am 28) doesn't have a hell of a lot to be proud of. I mean, I wonder what I will tell my children or grandchildren, as they grow, about when I was young. I try to be optimistc, but as I realized how I would answer that question, it has begun to scare me. Let's see.

When I was young, I saw society go from a place where I could play outside to a place where people were putting GPS tracking on their children. I saw poverty reach a high, and I saw democracy hit a low. I was able to see public morality flushed down the toliet, and those carefree days of childhood walk away when I needed to work to support my family at the age of 14. I never got to spend a great deal of time with my parents as they were both working just to stay afloat.

I saw our country attacked - not once, but mulitple times by our own citizens and those who saw us as evil. I have seen great sadness, but little pure joy. I have seen nature deal a mighty blow to all those who challenged her. I have seen the death of so many great men and no one, so far, to replace them. I have seen us go from a nation of pride to one of apathy.

We have done nothing to start great change in the hopes that our children might. I hope that in the near future things will change - maybe by me voicing my thoughts in this little blog, or by someone inspired by the thoughts of the world.

I end this by saying that I don't care who you voted for. Hell, I don't care if you are left or right, but who ever you are, think long and hard how you would answer your children or grandchildren when they ask "What was it like when you were young?"
