Thank you to everyone who posted, and I hope everyone has a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend.
Thanks for stopping by. We SOOOO very much miss you. You don't call, you don't write... *sniff-sniff*
Ok, my longest car ride by myself was when I first moved from Cape Coral, FL to Atlanta, GA. I think it took me about ten hours to drive there. It was boring and very lonely. I drove with the windows down and radio up really load so that I wouldn't fall asleep.
Be safe and don't be a stranger.

Hm.... I have to think a little about that; I use the car a lot, but have not driven my country from south to north yet ;)
I live in Norway, by the way, close to a really large fjord. But I grow up on the other "side" and do have a long trip back home when I go visit my folks. (over 500 kilometer) A couple of years ago I combined a trip back home with visit to a place I lived a few years so it became a round-trip; I guess about 900 or maybe close to 1000 kilometers..... I didn't do it all in one day, and visited friends along the way (that was nice) some of the way I had never driven before so there I was a little bit tourist and stopped in a few places to watch and experience :D
Good trip!
College for me was in Johnstown, a 220-mile drive through Central Pennsylvania from my beloved Philadelphia suburbs, known well for it's scenic scenery and backwoods yokels. Johnstown is the site of the famous Johnstown flood - caused by a man-made dam that was made weak in order to succomb to a rich man's wife's desire to have her carriage closer to the water.
Johnstown retains the notorious distinction of having the world's steepest inclined plane, which means nothing to you if you don't know what an inclined plane is. It is also known by those who attend school there (who are not themselves residents of Johnstown) as "the outskirts of nowhere" because "the middle of nowhere" is a place everyone has heard of, and Johnstown is not that.
Being an addict to books on tape, I would usually pass the time with mysteries. I was very fond of the alphabet mysteries by Sue Grafton. You know, A is for Alabi, B is for Burbglar, C is for Cucaracha, etc. I think she's out to R now.
The intersting trips to/from school were never by myself, though. One time, my friend Jen-Jen and I took a detour on this same route. A detour to Baltimore. (Baltimore is quite the detour I assure you.) Since this happened at night, we arrived in Baltimore no earlier than 1am. The city is surprisingly active at night - probably not with the types of people you would want to interact with. I kicked her out of the car to fetch a newspaper to prove we had been there.
There was also the time where my roommate and I stopped to howl at the moon as we crossed over some of the taller Appalachian mountains available nearby the turnpike (our nation's first turnpike, by the way). There was no moon that I remember. Yes, I do believe that there were bad chemicals in the school's water.
On a separate occasion, I was alone and managed to bide my driving time by not driving. The car completely broke down. Busted fuel pump. My advice to you is this - When you use the emergnecy call boxes, be aware that the box does not contain a phone, which is what I expected. No, the box contains three buttons. "Emergency", "Car Trouble", and "Police". Do not push the "Car Trouble" button more than once, even if it seems like the box is doing absolutely nothing. "Absolutely nothing" includes not doing the thing the box says it will do - lighting a yellow light - when you push the button. The policeman that suddenly appears out of nowhere will be angry with you.

I'm on a poetry tangent today (see my site for details):
after a long summer of work at camp
the trip had to be made sans vamp
ten and a half hours alone
a couple of audio books,
trying to avoid sleep,
i stopped often to stretch and creep
i'll aways remember how long it took
and next time, will stop to see a brook
thanks for the free-for-all,

When my hubby and I moved to Tampa in 2001 it took us two days drive to get here. My youngest brother rode with us and was originally going to ride with me, owing to the fact we thought I needed the company. He rode with he for the first couple of hours - then he moved to Hubbies car and rode with him the whole rest of the trip. I played CD's. I talked to myself. And only once did I get sleepy enough that we had to stop. I drove most of the 1st day alone, and ALL of the second day. :)
pfff! brave move to let every lunatic on the net take over your blog, even as a guest user! Anyway, have a good weekend and a nice car trip. This summer we go on holiday to France again, that's about 1600 km, but we both drive.
By the way, I've added you to my blogroll.

I have not taken a road trip alone either.. but the longest one I HAvE been on (more than a few times) is from Seattle to Texas. Takes 3 days each way! pretty fun though, as there are quiet a few different routes you can take which gives you plenty of sites to see.. I have never been to Chicago. Never been to the East at all.. have fun!!!
Happy FFAF!
I'm afraid I've never taken a solo road trip - I have no confidence as a driver and most major highways scare me. Living in the NY Metro area, this means I don't go much of anywhere alone unless it's on public transportation!
I did drive the rental car on a vacation to Austin with a friend about five years ago. Me, Ms. Fear of Highways herself, was going 70 or 80 on a Texas freeway looking for the Borders Bookstore we were trying to get to. I made it to the Borders in one piece, but I made my friend drive us back home! :)
Happy FFAF,

It's that time again. On this FFAF in honor of my upcomming car trip to Chicago, I want to know, what is the longest car trip you have taken by yourself and how did you pass the time.

Tonight or for those people on a normal sleep schedule this morning, I beat Kingdom Hearts. This is a game I would recomend to all Final Fantasy lovers, and Disney folks as well. The graphics are amazing and the storyline is unique. I truly enjoyed the game play as well as the story, and I have already put the sequal on hold for when it comes out I believe in December. Folks take my word on this I highly recommend this game.
